About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Brooklyn at 811 53rd St, LaoJie stands out as a vibrant hotspot for lovers of authentic Chinese cuisine, specializing in a unique blend of hot pot, buffet, and skewers. This beloved eatery expertly captures the essence of traditional flavors while inviting diners into an energetic, welcoming atmosphere that makes every meal feel like a festive gathering.

LaoJie’s signature offering, the Old Street DIY Spicy Hot Pot (老街自选DIY麻辣烫), is a captivating experience where you craft your own perfect bowl from a rich assortment of fresh ingredients—sliced beef, seafood boat assortments including surf clam, mussel, and shrimp paste, and a medley of mushrooms. Whether you prefer the warming depth of the Pork Bone Soup Base or the herbal complexity of the hot and sour or spicy hot pots, each broth is crafted to ignite your senses and comfort your palate.

The menu is a treasure trove of flavors and textures: BBQ skewers range from meticulously grilled chicken gizzards and yakitori to succulent tofu skin and vibrant seafood selections, all kissed with aromatic spices and sauces like the Old Street Secret Sauce and Lao Gan Ma chili oil that amplify every bite. The added freedom to customize your dipping sauces—from the nutty warmth of sesame oil and peanut sauce to the tangy lift of hoisin and chili sauce—turns each meal into an interactive culinary adventure.

Beyond the main courses, the snacks such as crispy Seasons Fries, fluffy Pumpkin Bread, and the sweet comfort of Rice Cake with Brown Sugar round out the meal perfectly. And don’t miss the luscious Mango Pudding Dessert that provides a refreshing, silky-smooth finale to your feast.

Very good value proposition AYCE option for hotpot and skewers. They have multiple locations across Brooklyn and Manhattan because the broth and food is good. My go to broth is usually bone or tomato soup base. The fish/shrimp paste is underrated and done well! If your birthday is within 3 days and you have a party or 4 or more, the birthday guy/gal eats for free. Just tell them you don’t want the loud music celebration or else they’ll do it. The interior decor is also themed nicely for “Lao Jie” experience. The best part is always the dessert as everyone enjoyed the mango pudding at the end! Make sure to wear clothes that you don’t mind attracting all that hot pot scent afterwards because it definitely will soak up all the aroma!

Great AYCE hotpot place! There is a 2 hour limit, but the food came out at great speed. I had my fair share of vegetables and meat.

Walked in for lunch after deciding to eat hot pot. The all you can eat price is pretty cheap. Service is quick and they were attentive. Overall they have a good interior and I think there was dry ice floating around too which was pretty cool.

Always a great time when I go to LaoJie. My family calls it Lao Gai, or old street, in our dialect. The food is awesome, the service is awesome, the atmosphere is awesome. They provide bags to put your coats and bags in. The skewers here are a must. No need to worry about food poisoning due to undercooked food. The skewers come prepared and ready to eat. The hotpot is also very solid. Much better than some other options available to you on 8th ave. There is unlimited soda so I had my fair share of diet coke. Ventilation is great so I didn't need to burn up as I had my food cooking up in front of me. All in all, this was a very solid hotpot and bbq skewer restaurant in the 8th ave area!
